Is there some sort of rule to automatically pull over when you see a cool donut shop? If not, there should be. Since 1971, Thomas’ Donut and Snack Shop has been that cool donut shop in Laguna Beach.
Finding Thomas’ shouldn’t be too hard either. Patti, a long time employee, spoke to us.
“It’s not uncommon for us to have a line going down the street,” she says. “And it’s not just locals. Tourists will wait in line all morning for donuts.”
Thomas’ makes all of their donuts fresh daily and puts them into their trademark pink and black boxes. They have plenty of imaginative and fun flavors, such as the chocolate maple bacon with a real bacon strip on top and their decadent strawberry milkshake donut. And if you love your donuts with coffee, Thomas’ is making their own coffee daily.
But Thomas’ definitely doesn’t stop at donuts. If you want a savory breakfast, you can chow down on some cheesy grits or a breakfast sandwich built the way you like it.
Patti also talked about the lunch menu.
“People really love our foot long chili dogs,” she says. “We also have something we call ‘Southern Poutine.’”
Southern Poutine is a mountain of fries that is smothered in pimento cheese and sausage gravy — a Southern twist on a Canadian delicacy.
People in Panama City grew up eating at Thomas’ and take their kids there. Patti says there’s more to it than just great food.
“People truly love the atmosphere here,” she says. “It has that old vibe inside that you don’t see too often anymore.”
